Solar Flood Lights

We found you the absolute brightest, most reliable solar flood light on the market.  It is the MAXSA Innovations 40225 Solar-Powered Motion-Activated 80 LED Security Floodlight.  Yup, that’s quite a mouthful of a name, but it also gives away every major selling point of this solar flood light.

First of all, it’s bright.  With 80 LEDs, it puts out about the same amount of light as a 40-watt halogen floodlight, which is pretty damn bright.  It’s great for driveways, porches, yards, back doors, etc.  Also, using LEDs means you won’t have to replace any expensive lightbulbs again.

The next selling point is the motion-activation, which of course is a feature that any good security floodlight should have.  If it startles the bejeezus out of me when I get home, then it will definitely spook away the bad guys.  Motion-activation is just a good idea in this case, and it also allows the floodlight to conserve the solar energy that it stores up in it’s rechargeable battery.  You can set the amount of time that the light will stay on for once it’s triggered.

The potential downsides to be aware of for this solar floodlight are — it takes a little work to install.  You have to set up both the floodlight and the solar panel, they have to be in a good place to get sunlight, and the mounting hardware and instructions are not the best.  Another issue is that both the floodlight and the solar panel have a limited range of motion, so you might have some trouble pointing the floodlight exactly where you want it, and you might have some more trouble ensuring the solar panel gets enough light.

Those are problems we can handle though, so in the solar floodlights category, this is our solid pick.
